Dreaming of a Cooler World Through Art

Have you ever loved a book so much the spine literally gave out? Years ago, I fell in love with a fantasy series that I read and re-read until the pages fell apart. I bought new copies and did it all over again. As I grew older, I sought out everything that author ever wrote. Unfortunately, as is sometimes the case, the person behind the pen turned out to be someone I can no longer support. I won’t share his name here, though some of you might piece it together. Despite that disappointment, one specific concept from his work stuck with me and eventually shaped my entire creative identity.

The Power of Grounded Fantasy

In a book about his writing process, he described his work as "Fantastic Reality." He explained the importance of grounding fantasy in a realistic world with hard-and-fast rules. He didn't just want magic; he wanted magic that felt like it belonged in a world you could touch.

That concept sparked something in me. When I picked up a digital brush, I found myself instinctively following that same path. I didn’t want to paint abstract dreams; I wanted to create:

• Detailed, realistic textures that feel tangible.

• An aura of fantasy woven subtly into the subject matter.

• Believable worlds where the "impossible" feels like a natural law.

I decided to borrow that expression—Fantastic Reality—to describe my own style. It captures the specific feeling I hope to evoke in you: the sense that you are looking at something real, even if it could never exist in our world.
